The Hasenkamp Group has developed a globally unique concept for the sustainable storage of art and cultural assets that is based on geothermal energy. The new building at the company's headquarters in Frechen is the fifth storage facility of this kind.
Cologne/Frechen, 15 June 2023 - The Hasenkamp Group, one of the leading fine art logistics companies, announces the construction of a new art storage facility in Frechen near Cologne. With a total area of 11,700 square metres spread over six levels. The project represents an addition of geothermally operated art depots to the European network. The group has been operating emission-free art storage facilities since 2008 and has also invested approximately 100 million euros for this purpose.
The new storage facility on the city limits of Cologne is the fifth of its kind within the Hasenkamp Group. It is similar in construction to the recently constructed buildings in Munich, Vienna, Brussels and Amsterdam. The depot in Frechen is powered by 42 geothermal boreholes at a depth of 80 metres. It will draw its electricity from renewable sources like solar panels.
The art depot meets the Vds C SG3 safety standard and offers museum-like storage conditions for works of art with a constant temperature of 20 degrees Celsius at around 55 per cent relative humidity. By investing in emission-free art storage in recent years, the Hasenkamp Group underlines its commitment to sustainable solutions in art storage.
The opening of the new art storage facility in Frechen is planned for December 2023.
