Following launches in the UAE and Qatar, Hasenkamp is opening another branch in the Middle East, in Riyadh. The decision coincides with Saudi Arabia’s first biennial, where Hasenkamp is the exclusive logistics provider.

Cologne-Frechen, 15 December 2021 - Saudi Arabia is a country in evolution and transition. This is especially true for the arts and culture sector. With the first biennial exhibition for contemporary art, launched in December, the Kingdom is embarking on a new path of openness and publicity. During this development, Hasenkamp, a specialist in logistics, is strengthening its presence on the Arabian Peninsula. Hasenkamp has already opened branches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2010 and 2011 – in Dubai and Abu Dhabi – as well in Qatar. With the new location in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh, the logistics specialist for art and cultural goods is serving a high demand for transport, packaging and storage solutions that has recently arisen due to exhibitions and new museum buildings.

"We have been active in Arab countries with our services for many years and look at the new developments in Saudi Arabia with great pleasure, because art and culture are a wonderful way to learn more about each other. The Saudi Ministry of Culture is a driving force behind the modernisation of the country. The development of Saudi Arabia’s first biennale has now prompted us to open a permanent representative office on site. It pleases me to see how the art is electrifying local people. People who welcomed our team with their generous hospitality", says Thomas Schneider, Managing Partner of Hasenkamp.

Hasenkamp currently has about a dozen employees in Riyadh, who are joined by employees from other regions on a project basis. Within the context of the biennial art exhibition, where more than 60 artists are exhibiting, Hasenkamp has been responsible as the exclusive logistics provider for the transport of artworks and their installation from all parts of the country, to the exhibition site on the outskirts of the metropolis Riyadh. The biennial exhibition is taking place on an area of 27,000 square meters in the Diriyah district, which is rich in cultural sights. According to the organisers, Diriyah Bienniale Foundation and the Saudi Ministry of Culture, two biennials will alternate annually: one for contemporary art (2021) followed by one for Islamic Arts (2022).
